UAE-based expatriates from Indian subcontinent have made pioneering efforts in popularising Urdu outside the shores of Indian and Pakistan which attracted lovers of the language across the world.
The latest addition to the list is a webzine in Urdu launched by Abu Dhabi-based poets Saghier Ahmad Jaffri and Sabiha Saba. UrduManzil.Com has not only attracted lovers of Urdu poetry from various parts of the world, but won appreciation from them as well.
Editor of the webzine, Jaffri, an engineer by profession, said there was a need of such portal to serve lovers of Urdu poetry and the poets as well.Renowned poetess Sabiha Saba is the Chief Editor of Urdu Manzil.
"The advent of technology has cast significant impact on every aspect of our lives. Since I am equally attached with technology and the world of Urdu poetry, I realised the power of a webzine in reaching to the masses which led me to launch urdumanzil.com he said.
Jaffri has been organising literary functions in the UAE for more than a decade and providing UAE-based Urdu poets and litterateurs a platform to showcase their skills. The launch of the website is yet another endeavour to serve the community.
The site features life and works of a number of prominent Urdu poets and an international directory of Urdu poets, writers and journalists. However, Adabnama, featuring news from the literary circle across the world, has been its hallmark.
